I was the team commander of the Air Force TACAN site at the west end of the Dak To runway (1st Mobile Combat Communications Gp, Air Force Communications Service) My team was left at Dak To after the 299th Eng. Bat. departed. Mine was the only A.F. team in history to act as ammo loaders on a Duster in combat.

I was a pilot with the Pink Panthers AH-1G ~ Cobra's. Some of us flew about 18 hours straight in defense of Dak To. I was only in country about 3 months when the battle stated. I remember seeing feathers all over a part of the runway, as several of us pilots were walking up the runway to the control tower , for a briefing. I bent over to examine some and saw that they were bloody. . I knew what that meant. I have the utmost respect and admiration for ALL of the GROUND forces. Us pilots KNEW we flew above the best, for the BEST. God Bless You All, Glenn Hogan "Shorty" US Army Avn (ret)
